WHAT IS LINK 6?
Link 6 is a GOOD NEIGHBOUR SCHEME for people who need a little help from time to time. The sort of things we can do include driving to and from hospital appointments, hairdresser, or shopping. We can also take you for a walk, come and have a chat or read to you, maybe change a light bulb or sew a hem. There is no predefined list; if you have a need, we will see what we can do to help.
We also run SOCIAL EVENTS every couple of months. These include such things as a garden party, film shows, Christmas Party, trips to garden centres.
Our aim is to complement other services already in existence, such as Connect and Social services, your family and friends.
WHO CAN USE LINK 6?
Anybody who has a need can request our service - there is no age limit; we will however undertake a basic assessment of need. Sometimes the need is temporary , e.g. if you have broken your arm and cannot drive, we may be able to help for a few days until you get a more permanent arrangement in place. We are all CRB checked so we can work with old and young alike.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Link 6 receives core funding to enable the service to exist, but that is not enough to pay for everything. We invite people who use the service to make a voluntary donation via a brown envelope. You pay what you can afford, or what you think the service is worth.
HOW DO I USE LINK 6?
You call our phone line 01249 892558 between the hours of 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. You may get the answerphone as we do not permanently man the phone. We would ask for 48 hours’ notice at least, as we need to try to match a volunteer to your request. We cannot guarantee that we will always be able to assist, but we will do our level best.
I WOULD LIKE TO HELP – WHAT DO I DO NEXT?
We are looking for committee members (not a very arduous task) and also volunteers. Volunteers can specify how much (or little) time they have available to help and will have to undergo a CRB check. You don’t have to be a car driver to be a volunteer, but if you do have a car and a clean driving licence, we would love to hear from you. Potential volunteers should contact Allison Bucknell on 01793 854421.
