The Broad Town Oil Syndicate is a group of householders who order heating oil in bulk, for individual home delivery on a single date. We started in the Broad Town area, and now include members from Broad Town, Broad Hinton, Clyffe Pypard, Bushton, and Winterbourne Bassett.

When a tanker may have to come over 40 miles from Avonmouth to your home, these areas all qualify as local.  There are some local suppliers (I can only think of two, but there may be more) who have storage facilities, but even they have to get it there, in a tanker, via the M4.

Suppliers will offer a discount because they send one vehicle to the area and are (virtually) guaranteed to empty it. The supplier saves on manpower and vehicle usage. Given you don't have many choices other than oil heating in this area you are likely to be buying the stuff anyway.  This scheme is nearly free money!

Savings vary - historically between one and three pence per litre.  Overall (to Oct 2009) the members have ordered hundreds of thousands of litres, saved thousands of pounds (see below), and eliminated a bunch of unnecessary lorry movements.
